Jamella Lee, an experienced human resources leader, assumes the role of Chief People Officer at Jumpstart, dedicated to instigating favorable transformations and envisioning a more promising tomorrow for everyone involved. With extensive expertise in fostering lively organizational climates and bolstering employee involvement, Jamella possesses profound insights into human interactions within her position. 

Jamella Lee, a dedicated lifelong learner, obtained her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Concurrently, she pursued a minor in business. Post-graduation, Jamella temporarily paused her academic journey to contribute as a City Year of Columbus corps member. Following this commitment, she resumed her educational pursuits at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, successfully earning her master’s degree in education.

Jamella Lee‘s educational journey extended further. 2010, she attained her Juris Doctor degree from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Her achievements were recognized with the Katherine C: Jones Scholarship and the Marsha Schermer Scholarship from the Columbus Bar Foundation during her tenure in the program. While in law school, Jamella enriched her experience by serving as a two-year summer associate at Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP, and contributing to the Ohio Law & Leadership Institute. This initiative aims to empower high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds, equipping them with the necessary skills for future roles in law and leadership within their communities.

Honored for her outstanding contributions to the Moritz College of Law, Jamella Lee was awarded the esteemed Harry S. and Georgina Lett Memorial Award upon completing her studies. Adding to her accolades, Jamella received the Compaq Leadership Award, acknowledging her commitment to civic leadership and service as a distinguished alumna of City Year.

Jamella Lee has dedicated herself to enhancing her professional expertise throughout her career. Concurrent with pursuing a master’s degree, Jamella assumed the role of an elementary school teacher at King Elementary School in Cambridge, MA. Additionally, she served as a facilitator at the Harvard Summer Literacy Institute. Before she departed from Harvard, Jamella held the position of a literacy instructor at the Dorchester Neighborhood Charter School.

Upon obtaining her master’s degree, Jamella Lee‘s opportunities expanded significantly. She relocated to South Africa to manage City Year’s Clinton Democracy Fellowship, responding directly to requests from former President Clinton and President Nelson Mandela. Jamella held this esteemed position for several years before eventually returning home.

Recently, Jamella Lee has directed all her professional endeavors towards Jumpstart. Serving as the Chief People Officer, she provides strategic guidance on human capital to align Jumpstart’s objectives, values, and people-centered principles with its mission. Through her leadership, Jamella endeavors to develop the vital personnel capacities necessary for furthering the organization’s mission of promoting a fairer education system for young children. 

Jamella Lee possesses a deep passion for travel, viewing it as a means of broadening her perspectives and embracing diverse cultures. Throughout her life, she has embarked on numerous journeys, each one enriching her understanding of the world and fostering a spirit of exploration.
